You will receive training on managing a busy convenience store, duties to include staff supervision, cash handling, banking, stock replenishment, control and ordering of stock . Shift patterns will include working early mornings, late evenings, weekends and public holidays. Working a 45 hour week over 5/6 days. After training you will begin working as a relief manager, gaining an indepth understanding of our conveneicne store business with progression to eventually managing your own store. JOB TITLE: TRAINEE MANAGER RESPONSIBLE TO:AREA MANAGER OBJECTIVES: To contribute to the achievement of the overall financial targets of the Company through the profitable operation of a retail outlet. To ensure the integrity of the Company's corporate image/brand by the maintenance of the operating standards in those retail outlet under your control. To ensure the protection of the Company's assets within the retail outlet. To include cash, stock, fixtures and fittings, equipment and property. These key objectives form the basis of the performance area against which you will be assessed. FUNCTIONAL SPECIFICATION: As a member of management, there are a number of key responsibilities which you will need to carry out in order to fulfil your role. These are outlined in the following pages. They will form the basis of your induction programme and may be useful in subsequent job related discussions. 1.RESPONSIBILITY Ensure that the Company operating standards are maintained and improved. 2.RESPONSIBILITY Ensure that all legislation, including Employment Law, Health and Safety Law, Environmental Health/Food Hygiene Regulations and Retail Law are adhered to where relevant and at all times. KEY ACTIVITIES Complete on a regular basis, the appropriate checks necessary to ensure that all legislative requirements are being met

Stock results are kept to within budget News debt is under control Any cash and stock discrepancies are acted upon and resolved efficiently 4.RESPONSIBILITY Manage the Company's assets ensuring that branch equipment and the physical structures of the retail branches are maintained to the required standards. KEY ACTIVITIES Arrange for branch equipment to be maintained. This will involve liaison with the Area Manager PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

5.RESPONSIBILITY Ensure effective staffing levels are maintained to meet customer service and operational requirements whilst keeping wage costs within the set budget. KEY ACTIVITIES Manage the performance of staff to ensure that only those of the required standard are in these positions Review regularly, with the Area Manager the instances of long terms absenteeism and sickness PERFORMANCE INDICATORS Evidence that you are achieving this will include: Staffing chart is compatible with customer traffic profile The Branch operates within laid down wage budget Customer complaints received are dealt with promptly and efficiently. The level of complaints should be monitored and action taken when appropriate. Any instances of long term absenteeism/sickness are dealt with appropriately and through the Area Manager 6.RESPONSIBILITY To produce an overall business plan for the branch KEY ACTIVITIES To develop an annual business plan for the branch, for review and agreement by the Area Manager. The plan to include for example: volume and profit targets, specific aims to ensure the effective management of the branch to meet the requirements of the Operations Manual, planned use of resources, local branch marketing, operating standards. Regular monitoring and review of progress with the Area Manager PERFORMANCE INDICATORS Evidence that you are achieving this will include: Appropriate targets are detailed for the branch including for example: volume, profit, specific aims for the development of branches in line with the retail strategy and the management of the brand. Targets are realistic but demanding and agreed with the Area Manager 7.RESPONSIBILITY To develop the business to achieve the financial targets set for the branch KEY ACTIVITIES Regular reviews of sales by department information to assess space utilisation In conjunction with the Area Manager identify and develop opportunities for growth of business Grow home news delivery through regular canvassing activity and manage the Company's exposure to account debt Manage the financial performance of the branch PERFORMANCE INDICATORS Evidence that you are achieving this will include: Profit and loss account results are reviewed on a regular basis - i.e. branch profitability is achieved News account debt is maintained at the lowest practical level Branch expenses are managed within budget Achievement of any News Accounts budgets is met 8.RESPONSIBILITY Recruitment and development of all staff within the branch KEY ACTIVITIES All current Branch Staff vacancies to be reported to the Area Manager To interview possible candidates for Sales Assistants positions forwarded by the Area Manager Ensure induction training is completed in full and advanced courses are attended within the specified time Identify training needs through appraisal system and on-going assessment reviews of the performance of management and staff with a view to succession planning Make recommendations to the Area Manager to meet the ongoing training and development needs of the Branch and staff as identified In line with Company policies and procedures, ensure that disciplinary and grievance procedures are adhered to and accurate records maintained Liaise with Area Management on Employee Welfare issues in conjunction with the Personnel department. Put forward candidates for internal and external awards Communicate to all Branch Staff via team briefings all relevant matters relating to company/branch performance, targets, policies, procedures and priorities. PERFORMANCE INDICATORS Performance issues are resolved without delay All training records are completed Appraisals completed on an annual basis Recommendations for promotion and training course attendance are made Recruitment selection decisions are made on the basis of a proper assessment method and against established selection criteria Recommendations made as appropriate for internal and trade competitions/performance awards.
